The Lord’s Highway

November 13, 2018

Good Morning Fellow Travelers,

Read: Isaiah 35

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” Psalm 16:11

Take the time to go with me on a tour of the highway that leads to the pleasures at the right hand of God. It is a highway. This means that it is a primary way, and not secondary. Here the wilderness and lonely place of sin give way to the Rose of Sharon.

It is a blossoming way. Jesus takes our hand here; He who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” walks with us, yea, in us. Hebrews 10:20 tells us that Jesus has consecrated a new and living way by the offering of His body on the cross.

It is a way of joy, and singing. The glory of the way is its joy. It is not the vain happiness of the momentary, fleeting pleasure of sin, but rather the lasting joy that runs deep in the soul. There the Lord reveals Himself in grace and love, and there He gives us eyes to see it and hearts to receive it.

It is the way where the feeble and faint-hearted are encouraged. This way is a healing way. All the broken hearts in the world could be healed here by one drop of the blood of Jesus, but it is not just a drop; it is a deluge, for “He tasted death for every man” (Hebrews 2:9).

It is the way of refreshment. Waters shall break out, streams in the desert, parched ground becomes a pool, and thirsty land turns to bubbling springs. And this all happens in the human heart.

This way is an appointed way. It is a way upon which we are directed by divine authority and protected by divine keeping. It is the King’s highway. The signposts of the word of the King are all in place. The roadmap is readily available.

It is a way of holiness. The unclean shall not walk here. No lion, like the roaring devil walks here, no ravening wolves. Well, who walks here then?

All men and women who are on the move to heaven are welcome here, even the foolish, like I. The redeemed walk in this highway, and we are all invited. Come to the way, the highway of our Lord.
