Angels – Ministers of God

August 14, 2018

Good Morning Fellow Travelers,

Read: Hebrews 1:1-2:7

“Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” Hebrews 1:14

It is a wondrous thought that angels attend and minister to our needs as Christians. I like to think that there is one who has my needs at heart, and who protects me from evil and harm. He has a name and some day we will meet that special agent of God who was assigned to us. Does this seem silly to you? It is not. In Matthew 18:10, Jesus says that we should not despise little ones because in heaven their angels do always behold the face of his Father which is in heaven. Our angels get their directions for our care straight from the Father.

They are powerful beings, created by God, spirits of flaming fire. One angel killed 185,000 Assyrians in one night. Are you afraid that the angel who protects you will fail? David saw the destroying angel, who killed 70,000 Israelites because of David’s sin, with a drawn sword. We want to be sure that the angel who attends us has no reason to draw his sword against us.

Angels have attended all of the great events in history. They were there at the Creation, shouting with joy as they beheld the emerging beauty of it all (Job 38:7). They sang to the praise of the child Jesus at birth (Luke 2:13). They were in the garden with Christ as He won the victory over the cross. They were at the tomb after the resurrection (Luke 24:4). They will bear us home to heaven (Luke 16:22). They will accompany Christ when He returns to judge the world, in flaming fire (II Thessalonians 1:7-10). They are here with us, right now. Let’s thank God for them often.
